Luxury Ambassador of the Month

Mikael Andersen, Senior Travel Designer ยท Private Travel Lab, Norway

What sparked your passion for luxury travel?

"I have always been a curious person. When I started exploring the world as a young adult, traveling affected me on a deep emotional level. I learned so much about different cultures and ways of life, but also about myself. I wanted to share that sense of discovery with others, which eventually led me into the travel industry. What I love most is creating a journey that feels completely right for the individual client, while introducing them to places and experiences they might never have considered themselves. Hearing after their return that a destination or experience truly moved them is one of the most rewarding parts of my work."

Which travel themes do you specialize in?

"I specialize in highly personalized journeys with elements of exploration and expedition. I enjoy creating itineraries that allow clients to feel that they are genuinely discovering a destination, rather than simply visiting its most famous sights. For me, luxury is not only about the standard of the hotel. It is also about access, authenticity, thoughtful pacing and creating experiences that feel truly unique to the individual traveler."

What's the most unusual client request you've ever had?

"One of the most unusual client requests I have ever gotten was definitely arranging a journey to visit every individual country in Oceania during a single trip lasting several months. It was an incredibly complex itinerary, but also exactly the kind of ambitious request that makes this profession so interesting and rewarding."

Have your expectations ever been seriously exceeded?

"This has happened many times, which makes it difficult to choose just one. However, the first truly exceptional experiences often leave the strongest impression. One that stands out is the villa we stayed in at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru. The setting, design, service and overall sense of privacy were absolutely extraordinary."

What has been your most memorable trip so far?

"That was being on safari in the Maasai Mara. There's something deeply moving about experiencing wildlife in its natural environment and feeling completely immersed in the landscape."

What destinations remain on your personal bucket list?

"Rwanda is currently at the top of my list. Experiencing a gorilla trek in the rainforest would definitely be a lifelong dream come true for me."
