For me, the archipelago is one of the most beautiful luxury destinations in the Indian Ocean. Luxury here is reflected not only in the hotels, but above all in the natural surroundings, the incredible sense of peace, the welcoming people, and the fact that even on picture-perfect beaches, guests often hardly see any other travelers. It starts with the arrival: The helicopter flight from Vilanculos over the turquoise ocean and white sandbanks is an experience guests will never forget. I earned my diving certification on Bazaruto myself and still remember it vividly. Reef sharks, turtles, intact coral reefs, and even dugongs, one of the world’s rarest marine mammals, are genuinely part of everyday life here. What matters even more to me, however, is the warmth of the people. Since most travelers arrive via Johannesburg and often spend a night there, Mozambique can be combined very easily with a broader Southern Africa itinerary. Whether South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, or Zimbabwe, the combinations are a natural fit."
