The Accomodations

At the heart of the Vega Camp are eight private, mobile "rooms", a.k.a. travel trailers, that accompany guests throughout their journey through western Mongolia that starts in Ölgii. Each trailer offers a queen-size bed, a single bed, and a private bathroom with a toilet and hot shower in around 11 square meters (118 square feet) – in a region where even running water is far from a given. Towels, coffee, and a safe are also included. The biggest room, though, is right outside the door: Mongolia’s vast landscapes and nature form an almost endless balcony, overlooking a mountain lake, a glacier, a river, or the open steppe, depending on the stage of the journey. While guests explore by jeep during the day, the rooms are transported to the next location and prepared again by the team. In the evening, their familiar private retreat awaits the guests – only the surrounding scenery has changed.

The Culinary

At Vega, the kitchen travels, too. In the mobile camp kitchen, a chef prepares meals that, according to the operator, emphasize quality ingredients and careful preparation while fitting around the day’s activities. Depending on the weather and stage of the journey, meals are served either in the dining tent, outdoors, or as picnics at scenic spots. After a day among mountain lakes and steppe, the camp becomes a gathering place – for dinner together, a glass of wine by the fire, or a quiet evening in one of the lounge areas dotted across the landscape.

The Experiences

Vega Explorations’ activities combine exceptional nature experiences with encounters that introduce guests to the nomadic culture of Mongolia. Alongside kayaking on alpine waters, guests can enjoy a private shamanic ceremony and a Golden Eagle Experience. During a visit to a yurt, guests meet a nomadic family and experience traditional riding games – such as picking up a coin from horseback and tug-of-war in the saddle. A private concert featuring traditional instruments and melodies passed down through generations guarantees to cover the body in goosebumps. Charter groups can choose from a range of additional experiences: building a yurt together, herding livestock with nomads, star mapping beneath the Milky Way, a horse-racing demonstration, a workshop on Mongolian textiles, and a massage amid Mongolia’s vast, open landscapes. Simply magical!
