Clients fancy some time out in the Bahamas? Then The Potlatch Club is a tempting choice. The lavishly-renovated and newly-opened boutique resort is located on the island of Eleuthera, and boasts a seven-mile stretch of sandy beach at its doorstep. Elaborate tropical gardens are the perfect backdrop for a property with an abundance of high-society history.

The Accommodations

Romantic getaway, family vacation, or a big celebration? The Potlatch Club is certainly ideal for any of these occasions. With just eleven accommodations, it's a bonafide boutique with plenty of privacy. Guests can choose among three suites, three cottages with garden or ocean views, and two villas. They range from one to four bedrooms, and a butler attends to every need. Some of the accommodations have private verandas or terraces, while others have small, cosy pavilions by the water. The Potlatch Club can also be rented as a buy-out upon request, just like Paul McCartney did when he spent his honeymoon here (and wrote Beatles songs). Many Hollywood stars of the 1960s, such as Greta Garbo and Raymond Burr, also regularly stayed at this formerly private estate.

The Resort

If it's one thing your clients will be able to enjoy at the Potlatch Club, it's an abundance of space. The estate extends over an area of more than 4.8 hectares (almost 12 acres) of land, much of it being a lovingly landscaped tropical garden. Don't forget the beach for days, which is a seven-mile stretch of nothing but Caribbean paradise. In the main building (pictured) there are various common areas where much of the decor – such as the checkerboard pattern floor – is still original. There is a library for guests in that maritime-Caribbean style, as well as the Fig Tree restaurant, which has a seasonally-changing international menu and offers indoor and outdoor seating. Drinks are mixed at the Sands Bar, which is located under a pavilion. The restaurant is also open to guests from outside, available by reservation only. This also goes for the pool and water sports, where day passes can be booked.

The Experiences

The beach is one of the most attractive features of the estate. Or should we say beaches? The island itself has a whopping 135 of them, many of which are hidden oases. No wonder The Potlatch Club has put together special excursion programs. "The Beaches of Eleuthera" brings guests to these places of longing. If your clients prefer waves then there's also "On the Water," which takes guests to remote islands and sandbanks where they can swim and snorkel with turtles and other wildlife. A third tour, "A Visit to Harbour Island," ventures to the island next door. Massages from the Acqua Spa can be booked on the beach or in the accommodations, and relaxing by the pool tends to be as popular as water sports. SUP boards and kayaks are available for paddlers to explore the shallow waters in front of the hotel, and there are boat trips, too.
