Just opened and already part of Marriott's expanding luxury brand: Casa Brera, located in Milan's Piazzetta Bossi pedestrian zone, has been welcoming guests since fall 2024 and has been part of Marriott's Luxury Collection since January of this year. Having commissioned the well-known designer Patricia Urquiola, the main focus is on design and architecture. Urquiola has combined bold colors, such as in the Brera Suite (pictured) with elegant furniture. There are 101 rooms and 15 suites available for guests. In order to live up to Milan's reputation as a hotspot for gourmets, Casa Brera has engaged Michelin-starred chef Andrea Bertin. He has developed the culinary concepts of the Living Lounge, the Scena, and the Etero Skybar. Your clients shouldn't miss the latter anyway, because it's on the eighth floor of the hotel and from there clients will have a panoramic view of the Milan cityscape and of its many famous buildings. Plus, there's a rooftop pool! But back to culinary delights: the Japanese restaurant Odachi has the first Japanese chef in Italy to be awarded a Michelin star, Haruo Ichikawa. He also whips up omakase menus, which are available only by reservation.

It will take a little longer, but the Six Senses Milan is due to open in the second half of the year. The luxury hotel will be the IHG brand's second in Italy after the Six Senses Rome. It will be located in Via Brera in the middle of the beautiful artists' quarter in Milan's city center. The location is perfect for art buffs, as important museums such as the Pinacoteca are within easy reach. The hotel itself will have 53 rooms and 15 suites, two of which will have their own plunge pool. Pretty cool for a city hotel! The design of the Six Senses Milan is very elegant and timeless with warm colors and stylish accents. As befits a Milanese hotel, classic design elements such as Arabescato marble, antique brass details, and mosaics are all recurring motifs. What the hotel's F&B landscape will look like is still a secret. What is clear, however, is that Six Senses also attaches great importance to sustainability in this city hotel and will have an Earth Lab. Here, guests can find out how the hotel uses its resources. There are also workshops where guests can learn more about upcycling or the production of non-toxic detergents for the environment. And of course, one of the legendary Six Senses Spas is not to be missed.

Rocco Forte Hotels has also recognized that Milan is a trending (and trendy) city and has justifiably announced another new opening. Following the opening of the Rocco Forte House Milan in the northern Italian metropolis in summer 2024, The Carlton, Milan will follow in late summer. The hotel is located practically around the corner from the Rocco Forte House in Via della Spiga, which is known for its chic and luxurious boutiques. When it comes to design, Olga Polizzi, Design Director of Rocco Forte Hotels, has teamed up with Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen. Their aim: to mix traditional Milanese charm with modern elegance. The rooms feature high ceilings, stucco elements, and light colors. There will be a total of 70 rooms and suites. According to Rocco Forte Hotels, the new hotel will offer guests other highlights in addition to the living experience, as there is a planned rooftop terrace with a panoramic view over Milan in the works. Add to it a romantic sundowner and the wow memories (read: clients blowing up their 'Gram) are guaranteed! The Carlton will also have a restaurant and a lounge bar, making it the place to be for Milan's high society. Guests who prefer wellness to socializing will also feel right at home in the spacious spa area that is planned for the property.

The Plein Hotel, designed by German designer Philipp Plein, is a recent small-but-mighty arrival on Milan's hotel scene. The boutique hotel, which is also part of the Small Luxury Hotels portfolio, is a real eye-catcher, as Plein has spared no expense on motifs, colors, or statement pieces. Each of the 13 rooms and suites have their own individual and unique designs which play with various elements of color and light. What they all have in common, however, is their luxurious elegance. In addition to the entry-level Deluxe Room category, there are two special categories with their own sauna: the Premium Spa Deluxe Rooms and the Spa Junior Suite Terrace. All other categories with the exception of the Deluxe Rooms have a very stylish bathtub at the end of the bed. Regarding the design of the hotel's three restaurants, "opulent" describes them best. Both the signature Italian restaurant Philipp's Club & Restaurant and the Japanese Sukaru Ba are a feast for the eyes. There is so much to see, including golden skulls! La Jungle de Plein, Milan's first Luxury Vegan Dirty Bistro, has just opened and serves vegan cuisine with very special textures. Crystal Beach, an outdoor dining venue with private corners, cool sounds, and a Korean barbecue, is also in the pipeline.

Trendy New Restaurants
For foodies, Milan is a true paradise – it might even make a Michelin inspector lick the plate clean. The colorful Gloria (pictured) in Via Tivoli 3, for example, combines traditional Italian recipes with gastronomic influences from France, England, Spain, and Germany. The ambience of the restaurant with its 1960s-flair and four-meter-high (13ft.) windows rounds out the experience. The Sogni in Via S. Calocero 8, on the other hand, mainly serves vegan and vegetarian dishes as well as fish specialities from the Mediterranean. Depending on which part of the restaurant you sit in, the experience can be quite different. The spacious Salotto is equipped with small alcoves for dining with privacy, but there's also a large curved table for social dining and plenty of flaunting in the middle of the Refettorio. Guests who like it greener can book a table in the winter garden called the Veranda, where a seat at the bar is also an option. Milan of course has as much culinary depth as it has range. The Nobuya at Via San Nicolao 3a can also be found in the Michelin Guide. It serves first-class Japanese cuisine, including a vegetarian omakase menu, in a chic minimalist setting.

Cool New Bars
At the Bar Remedy Wine & Spirits Milano (pictured), even a sommelier might say "Just bring me the house wine." A total of 6,000 different wines from classics to rare finds are available. On top of that, the selection – nay, portfolio – is complemented by 2,000 spirits. So clients can easily spend a few hours here. There are also Italian snacks, a private room with a speakeasy vibe, and a cigar lounge. Remedy is located on the corner of Viale Majno and Via Morelli. The 1930 Bar has quite a speakeasy vibe. Since it was founded in 2013, its location has been top secret. Now it has reinvented itself and can be found at Via Edmondo de Amicis 22 – but it's not that easy to get in. Only 193 members can get access, plus guests who manage to get one of the coveted seats. How does that work? One has to be on good terms with the bartenders at Mag La Pusterla at the same address, and make your love of cocktails or the excellent whiskies clear. Much more partying is the order of the day at Rumore. There's live music here every day, with a mix of Roaring Twenties and Cool Sixties sort of style to their cocktails and dishes. Off you go to Corso Venezia 11.

Let's ask the Industry:
Why is Milan a great city for luxury travelers?
"Milan is a global hub for luxury, seamlessly blending fashion, culture, and gastronomy. With its world-famous designer boutiques, exclusive art collections, and refined hospitality, the city offers high-end travelers an unparalleled level of sophistication and exclusivity. The demand has increased recently, particularly from discerning travelers from North & South America, the UK, and Australia who seek immersive experiences in fashion, art, and fine dining. Milan is also drawing more European travelers looking for unique, tailor-made stays that go beyond the traditional city break. Experiences that are a must do are a private viewing of The Last Supper, a curated shopping experience with access to exclusive designer showrooms, behind-the-scenes visits to artisan workshops, and private gastronomic experiences at Milan’s top restaurants. The city’s cultural and culinary scenes are at the heart of its luxury appeal. Milan offers an extraordinary level of personalization and exclusivity. Whether it’s private fashion tours, invitation-only gallery visits, or bespoke culinary experiences, the city caters to travelers seeking authenticity and elegance with seamless service. Talking about future trends I see a growing demand for slow, sustainable luxury travel. More high-end visitors are looking for unique, behind-the-scenes experiences—such as private ateliers, off-market art collections, and intimate dining with renowned chefs – rather than just traditional luxury hospitality. Milan is also becoming a key wellness destination, with exclusive spa and wellness offerings integrated into luxury stays. Milan’s food and drink culture is an essential part of its luxury offering. From Michelin-starred restaurants to elegant aperitivo lounges, the city has become a top culinary destination for travelers who value authentic, high-quality experiences. The rise of exclusive dining clubs and private chef experiences reflects the demand for more personalized gastronomy."
