Aranoa, French Polynesia

Aranui Cruises, known for blending cargo service with off-the-beaten-path adventure, is launching a second ship. Starting in 2027, the brand-new Aranoa will join its sister ship Aranui V and set sail between Tahiti and the remote Austral Islands. Designed to carry 198 passengers in 93 cabins (62 with private balconies) the Aranoa offers a sleek, modern onboard experience with two restaurants, bars, a spa, pool, fitness center, and even a tattoo studio that nods to Polynesian tradition. But this ship isn’t just about luxury – it’s a lifeline. Like the Aranui V does for the Marquesas, the Aranoa will deliver vital supplies to the Austral Islands, a chain of seven islands located 600 kilometers (373 miles) south of Tahiti. Only five of the islands are inhabited, home to just 6,800 people. For travelers, it’s a rare chance to experience an untouched corner of the planet. The Aranoa will depart from Papeete and make stops at the five main inhabited islands.

Como Laucala Island Private Hangar, Fiji

Luxury starts the very moment your clients land: Como Laucala Island, the ultra-exclusive resort in Fiji, now operates its own private hangar at Nadi International Airport – just steps from the main private jet terminal. Here’s how it works: As soon as they step off their plane, the Como team is waiting with a warm VIP welcome. Guests are swiftly guided to a private transfer, which takes them to the resort’s dedicated hangar for a seamless customs and security experience. The Como staff handles everything – from the bio-security checks to luggage labeling for your connecting flight to the island. Once through, guests are escorted to the elevated Como lounge overlooking the hangar. It’s a chic, tranquil space stocked with food, drinks, and everything they need to refresh before the final leg of their journey. When it's time to board, the team leads them to their waiting aircraft for a direct flight to Como Laucala Island’s private airstrip.

Pearl Resorts, French Polynesia

The Tahitian luxury group Pearl Resorts just gave three of its five properties a serious glow-up – and the results are nothing short of jaw-dropping. Le Taha’a, Le Bora Bora, and Le Tikehau all underwent full-scale renovations, taking already gorgeous getaways to next-level tropical dreamscapes. After years of closure, Le Tikehau has made its comeback as a sparkling gem in the ultra-remote Tuamotu Archipelago – an untouched stretch of atolls. Guests can now reach it via direct flight from Bora Bora on Wednesdays and Saturdays, or daily from Tahiti. Also freshly reimagined: Le Taha’a, an intimate, 59-suite resort set on Vanilla Island – aka Taha’a, where about 80% of Tahiti’s vanilla is produced. The journey begins with a flight into Raiatea (RFP), followed by a private boat transfer straight to the resort’s jetty. Island arrival never looked so chic! Last but definitely not least, Le Bora Bora saw the biggest investment: 40 million euros went into revamping this lagoon-front paradise, located in the northwest of Bora Bora. And the payoff? All three elevated resorts – Le Taha’a, Le Bora Bora, and Le Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas – have just joined the prestigious Relais & Châteaux collection. Word is, Le Tikehau is next.

Vatuvara Private Islands, Fiji

Private island escapes just got more accessible – without losing an ounce of exclusivity. Vatuvara Private Islands, tucked away in Fiji’s remote Northern Lau Group, has shifted gears: You no longer need to book the entire island. Instead, its three ultra-luxe villas are now available individually, making this hidden gem a dream for couples, small groups, or solo travelers chasing serious serenity. Set on the lush 324-hectare Kaibu Island, the villas – Saku, Vata, and flagship Delana – offer full privacy, their own pools, beach access, and panoramic views of the glimmering Pacific. Villa Delana turns it up a notch with extra space, a dining gazebo, and its own mini spa sanctuary. What makes Vatuvara stand out? Pretty much everything is included – from daily spa treatments to curated culinary experiences. Your villa comes stocked with your favorite drinks, and the chefs at the resort’s two restaurants tailor menus to your taste. Craving a Champagne picnic on a private islet? Done. In the Pipeline: Vatu Talei – The Jewel

Not quite ready for a site inspection, but right on schedule: The five-star Vatu Talei Hotel is currently taking shape on Denarau Island, Fiji. Once complete, the resort will feature 127 rooms and suites, 30 two-bedroom apartments, 18 penthouse apartments, and a cultural center. A major highlight: what is set to become the largest swimming pool in the Pacific, according to the resort. It’s designed to offer a wide range of water-based activities and will include a lazy river, water slides, swim-up bars, and a rooftop infinity pool. That’s especially important given the resort’s location: it won’t be directly on the beach. For the interior design, the project draws inspiration from Fiji’s natural beauty, including the creation of hanging gardens. The grand opening is scheduled for late 2026. More Info

Let's Ask the Industry

Why Isn’t Selling South Pacific Trips a No-Brainer?

"When it comes to selling trips to the South Pacific, there’s a lot to consider. Each island group is completely different, and while most clients have heard of Bora Bora, it often becomes clear during the consultation that another destination – like a lesser-known Polynesian island, the Cook Islands, or Fiji – might suit them better. As a travel advisor, I dedicate plenty of time to understanding exactly what a client is looking for. Often, their dream doesn’t quite match the hotel reality – or vice versa. That’s where honest guidance and tailored recommendations really matter. Patience is also key. Planning takes time, especially since replies from local suppliers can take two to three days due to the time zone difference. And let’s not forget the flight – it’s long. A stopover is often a smart move. Getting to French Polynesia from Europe is relatively straightforward though, for example by flying via Los Angeles. Right now, demand is a bit quieter but based on past trends, it’s expected to pick up again starting in August. Most clients plan 9 to 12 months ahead. French Polynesia remains the top seller, followed by a combo of French Polynesia and the Cook Islands. Pure Cook Islands trips come in third. For us, the South Pacific is still a relatively new destination – we only added it to our portfolio about three years ago, but we’re very happy with how steadily the demand is growing. And honestly, I’m glad there aren’t constantly new hotels popping up. Renovating existing properties helps preserve the authentic island character that makes the South Pacific so special in the first place."

In a Nutshell

Think no one’s asking for South Pacific escapes? Think again. These island nations are incredibly diverse – there’s truly something for every type of traveler. Demand is absolutely there: both Tahiti and Fiji have seen steady growth for years. The key? Get your clients curious. Sure, the flight’s long from most countries – but with the right stopover, it becomes part of the adventure. And when it comes to luxury? The South Pacific delivers in spades. Top brands are taking note, too: the InterContinental in Tahiti is about to be rebranded as a Regent, upping the island’s five-star game even further. Bottom line: The South Pacific isn't a hard sell – it just needs the right story.
