Luxury Ambassador of the Month
Mònica Coves, Premium Service Director at BMC Global & Promoviatges · Spain
What sparked your passion for the luxury travel industry?
"Since I was very young, discovering unknown places has been one of my passions. Back then, it wasn’t always possible to experience them in person, so books and videos (this was before Instagram or TikTok) became my source of inspiration. What I love most is discovering new cultures, different ways of life, magical sunrises and sunsets, diverse people, and completely unfamiliar landscapes."
Career
- 1994-2012: Travel Designer at Japanese Travel Agency JTB in Barcelona
- since 2012: Corporate & Leisure Premium Service Director at Catalan travel agency BMC Global & Promoviatges in Barcelona
Which regions or travel themes do you specialize in?
"I am not specialized in a single destination – my challenge is to provide each client with exactly what they’re looking for, at any given moment. That’s why we’re constantly training and staying up to date with the latest developments in high-end travel destinations. This ongoing learning process is what I enjoy most – and what we focus on most as a team. It’s a key value in the work we do."
What was the most challenging journey you have ever created?
"Every trip is a challenge – not just because it requires reliable suppliers, but because it’s about truly understanding what the client is looking for. We’ve organized many remarkable adventures for our clients, but perhaps the most unforgettable was helping one of our most passionate travelers fulfill a lifelong dream: stepping on the South Pole. It wasn’t an easy feat. While many cruise ships offer expeditions to Antarctica, spending the night at the only existing North American base at the South Pole – and literally circling the South Pole within seconds – is an entirely different story. Challenge accepted – and accomplished! 😊"
What was the most emotional moment you made come true?
"Emotion is a difficult feeling to explain – and even harder to express. But children have a magical way of bringing it to life. One client gave me a truly special challenge: to surprise his children at Christmas. We were in the Maldives, celebrating the end of the year, and he asked me to come up with something memorable for Twelfth Night. I wasn’t sure how to impress two children, aged 5 and 7, who were already used to big parties and getting everything they wished for. The solution? A private encounter with the Three Wise Men in the Dubai desert who were loaded with gifts. It worked perfectly!"
Which destinations are still on your personal bucket list?
"The world is very big, and although I am fortunate to know many destinations, I have some 'Must sees' that I do not want to miss: watching polar bears in the Arctic, seeing the mountains of Alaska, experiencing the Salar de Uyuni, and enjoying the Aurora Borealis."
