Serpent in the Spotlight

Is that Nessie? Not quite – it’s Naga, San Francisco’s dazzling new art installation. Stretching over 30 meters (100 feet) long and 8 meters (26 feet) tall, the shimmering sea serpent now snakes its way along the car-free JFK Promenade leading into Golden Gate Park. Crafted from five sculptural elements, Naga comes alive at night, its iridescent scales bathed in rainbow light as it glows against the backdrop of Rainbow Falls. Adding a touch of whimsy, the mythical creature even blows soft bubbles from its mouth. The installation is the creation of artists Cjay Roughgarden, Stephanie Shipman, and Jacquelyn Scott.
